I led the design and rollout of a scalable design system powering Safeway’s pickup, delivery, and in store digital grocery SaaS platforms. My mission: reduce inefficiencies, improve cross team consistency, and accelerate delivery across 12+ product teams.
Problem
Disparate UI patterns, inconsistent accessibility, and redundant components slowed product velocity, weakened customer experience, and created friction across design to dev handoff.
Solution
I architected a unified, inclusive design system that streamlined workflows, elevated design quality, and reduced build ambiguity, empowering teams to move faster with confidence.
Key Outcomes
- 35% increase in component reuse, reducing design and dev duplication
- 18% faster design to dev handoff, boosting velocity and alignment
- 60+ partners onboarded with scalable design practices and clear documentation
- Enabled $10.8M in projected revenue uplift via improved interaction flows and smarter order editing
- Enabled $513K in new ad revenue through monetized Drive Up & Go experiences
Key Initiatives
- System Scalability & Simplification: Audited and unified core components to reduce redundancies and support rapid feature rollout
- Inclusive, Brand Aligned Design: Applied universal design principles while maintaining Safeway brand identity
- DesignOps & Documentation: Built structured Figma libraries and onboarding materials to reduce duplication and scale adoption
- Engineering Collaboration: Partnered closely with devs to streamline design to code translation and improve delivery fidelity
- Stakeholder Alignment: Leveraged storytelling and data to influence product strategy and executive decision making
Impact
This work laid the foundation for long term scalability across Safeway’s digital grocery experiences. By embedding design maturity into the fulfillment org, we improved operational efficiency, cross functional collaboration, and the customer journey across key touch points.
